Olas Altas…Mazatlán's first resort beach

Olas Altas was the place to be when Mazatlán first became a tourist destination in the 1950's. Movie stars John Wayne, Gregory Peck and Yul Bryner paid regular visits and later surfers discovered it. Olas Altas (tall waves) was perfect for surfing. The beach and surrounding neighborhoods have changed little over the years. There are several Hotels on the beachfront, along with restaurants, gift shops and other businesses. The beach is only a few minutes walk to the the Plaza Machado

The Hotel Belmar, Mazatlan's first resort hotel, is still operating offering rooms for $35 and up. See HOTELS

Sunset beach, Olas Altos beachfront is lined with cafes, perfect for watching the Pacific sunsets.
