Mazatlan's Central Market… El Mercado Pino Suarez…
Mazatlán's Central Market, 100 years as the non-supermarket
No shrink wrapping, no food sitting around for days… Mazatlan's Central Market is everything the supermarket is not. Arriving daily: fresh meat, produce and seafood. Meat cut to order and a huge selection of fresh produce make this the market for cooks. Add groceries, gift items, clothing and food stalls and it's easy to see why you'd seldom have need of the big suburban supermarkets.

Classic French colonial architecture, Pino Suaraz has been the center of Mazatlan for over 100 years. A hub for city busses the market serves as a place to buy and to dine. The upstairs deck features a dozen or so lunch restaurants offering a set meal for $2 to $3.
A side of beef is carefully butchered on the spot, just a few yards from stalls offering arts and crafts to tourists. Meat and fish are usually sold the same day and presented in refrigerated displays with no shrink wrap like today's supermarkets.
