Quiet shady plazas and a relaxed lifestyle make the old city ideal for the non-tourist.

Mazatlan's Centro Historico…The historical Center

A Destination For The Non-Tourist

In a world of Globalization tourist destinations have become much the same. If you like to sit next to a swimming pool, drink cocktails with little umbrellas in them and eat 'international' food, there are tourist resorts in almost every country, including Mexico. If you're one of the minority who would rather 'go native' the old Historical Center of Mazatlán, Mexico is well worth a look. El Centro Histórico is the business center of the city with the busiest port on Mexico's west coast and is home to the world's larges shrimp fleet.

This website is for those who prefer to learn a little of the language and live with the locals, away from the expensive resorts hotels and theme restaurants. Mazatlan is about a days travel by air from most North American cities and from the Southwest a one or two day drive, or overnight bus trip. Clean, simple hotels for under $50 a night and affordable food, drinks and entertainment make this a destination for the non-tourist.

Unfortunately travel is no longer as easy and relaxing as it used to be, airlines are inflexible and airport security is unpleasant at best, sometimes making travelers stand in line for hours.

Big cities have become expensive with hotels asking $200 $300 a night, $10 for a bottle of mineral water, $50 taxi rides from airports. There seems to be no shortage of people willing to accept the poor treatment airlines offer and the inflated cost of travel. For the rest of us who like to go native without laying out hundreds a day there are still a few options left...Mazatan's one of them.
